The Grand Canal of Venice & 베니스 대운하
The Grand Canal is a canal in Venice, Italy. It forms one of the major water-traffic corridors in the city. Public transport is provided by water buses and private water taxis, and many tourists explore the canal by gondola.
At one end, the canal leads into the lagoon near the Santa Lucia railway station and the other end leads into Saint Mark Basin; in between, it makes a large reverse-S shape through the central districts of Venice. It is 3,800m long, 30~90m wide, with an average depth of five meters.

S자 모양으로 베니스의 중심을 휘감고 있는 대운하는 총 길이 3.8km, 깊이 3~6m, 너비 30~90m의 규모로 세계에서 가장 아름다운 물로 만들어진 거리다. 운하를 따라 118개의 섬들이 약 400개의 다리로 이어져있으며 석호를 따라서 길게 펼쳐진 경치는 압권이라 불릴 만큼 아름답다. 특히 12~18세기에서 지어진 역대 베니스의 총독들과 부호들의 대저택은 베니스 최고의 볼거리로 꼽히고 있다.

 

St Mark’s Square of Venice & 산마르코 광장
St Mark’s Square is the principal public square of Venice, Italy, where it is generally known just as “the Piazza”. All other urban spaces in the city are called “campi”(fields). The Piazzetta(the ‘little Piazza’) is an extension of the Piazza towards the lagoon in its south east corner.
The two spaces together form the social, religious and political centre of Venice and are commonly considered together. This article relates to both of them. A remark usually attributed to Napoleon calls the Piazza San Marco “the drawing room of Europe”

베네치아 정치, 경제, 문화의 중심지로 거대한 홀처럼 보이는 이 광장을 두고 나폴레옹은 세계에서 가장 아름다운 응접실이라고 불렀다고 한다. 광장의 가운데에는 베네치아의 수호신인 날개 달린 사자상과 성테오도르상이 있고 동쪽으로 산 마르코 대성당, 두칼레 궁전이 있다. 현재는 박물관을 비롯해 오래된 카페, 살롱들이 들어서 있으며 1720년에 개업한 카페 플로리안은 과거 바이런, 괴테, 바그너 등이 자주 들렀던 곳으로 유명하다.
