Rediscovering a place to find the lost memory 잊혀진 장소 속 망각된 이야기와 조우하다, 작가 신미정

There is no doubt that Shin Mi Jung is a promising young artist. But it isn’t not enough to explain her with some words ‘a promising young artist’. Certainly, there are something more wide & huge narrations in her art pieces unlike ordinary art pieces. Here is the Korean artist, Shin Mi Jung who is doing art works through installations, videos, performances for communicating with publics and is practicing the real value of fine art.

In fact, she usually starts her project by discovering a disappeared space. And she tries to rediscover the story or the history that are hidden in the place. From the 1st solo exhibition about an abandoned factory and some related stories, 2nd exhibition , 3rd exhibition to her very latest 4th exhibition , she is raising some questions related with the society to the public.

CultureM Magazine meets the artist Shin Mi Jung who wants to prove the world why the society needs artists and true role of artist in society.

The Korean artist, Shin Mi Jung

작가 신미정은 전도유망(前途有望)하다. 하지만 단순히 그녀를 앞으로 잘 될 희망이 있거나 장래가 유망하다는 사전적인 의미로 규정 짓기에는 턱 없이 부족한 느낌이다. 분명 그녀의 작품에는 여느 작품이 아우를 수 있는 서사, 그 이상의 이야기를 담고 있기 때문이다. 설치와 영상, 퍼포먼스까지 다양한 매체를 사용해 세상과 오롯이 소통하고 순수 예술의 가치를 실천하고 있는 작가, 신미정.

사실 그녀는 사라질 위기에 처한 장소를 주목하고 그 속에 숨겨진 이야기를 통해 그 장소만의 계보를 찾아가는 작업을 하고 있다. 2014년 재건축을 앞두고 페허가 된 공장에서 열린 첫 개인전 를 시작으로 두 번째 개인전 <폐공장 도난사건>, 세 번째 개인전 , 식민지 시절 익산(이리)의 모습을 영상으로 조명한 가장 최근의 네 번째 개인전 <식민지 / 추억>까지 다수의 전시회를 통해 대중들을 향해 끊임없는 문제의식을 던져왔다.
