The place for body and mind, Yufuin

Yufuin Town, located in a central part of Oita, is an area extending past the boundary of the Yufuin Basin in which Oita-gawa River originates. Yufuin is a spa town with many inns around Yufuin Station on a southwestern part of the skirts of Mt. Yufu-dake. The hot water is colorless and transparent and of gentle nature without a strong effect. There are many public bathhouses in the town. They are highly convenient for tourists.

Lake Kinrin-ko located in Yufuin is named from the “shining scales of fish in the setting sun”. Hot water and cold pure spring gushes from the bottom of the lake, and fog rises from its surface on a cold day. Long-established inns, smart-looking small inns called “pension”(family type inns in Japan), unique art museums, small galleries, sophisticated restaurants and coffee shops mingle together in Yufuin, giving the area an attractive atmosphere.

 

내 영혼을 위한 여행, 유후인

규슈 온천 여행의 관문인 유후인은 1년 12달 온천이 샘솟는 작은 마을로 전통 공예를 포함한 일본 특유의 정서를 체험할 수 있는 곳이다. 특히 거리 곳곳 개성 넘치는 공방과 미술관은 온천만큼이나 많은 관광객들이 이목을 사로잡고 있다. 특히 유후인 관광의 시작과 끝이라고 할 수 있는 유노쓰보 거리(湯の坪街道)는 거리 양쪽으로 늘어서있는 오래된 가옥과 현대적인 건물이 인상적인 곳이다.

이 곳을 지나면 ‘황금비늘 호수’라고 불리는 긴린코 호수(金鱗湖)를 만나게 되는데 차가운 지하수와 뜨거운 온천수가 동시에 흘러나오는데 이곳의 물안개는 가히 압도적인 정취를 자아낸다. 또한 호수 주변에는 갤러리와 아기자기한 기념품 가게가 들어서 있는데 메이지 시대의 술창고와 가옥 등, 규슈 지방의 건물을 복원해 놓은 유후인 민예촌, 3,000여 개의 테디베어를 판매하고 있는 유후인 테디베어의 숲 등이 관광객의 발길을 불러모으고 있다.
