About Yufuin

Yufuin Town, located in a central part of Oita, is an area extending past the boundary of the Yufuin Basin in which Oita-gawa River originates. Yufuin is a spa town with many inns around Yufuin Station on a southwestern part of the skirts of Mt. Yufu-dake. The hot water is colorless and transparent and of gentle nature without a strong effect. It can alleviate rheumatism, neuralgia, etc. There are many public bathhouses in the town. They are highly convenient for tourists.

Lake Kinrin-ko located in Yufuin is named from the “shining scales of fish in the setting sun”. Hot water and cold pure spring gushes from the bottom of the lake, and fog rises from its surface on a cold day. The Kuju Platean situated in the grassland at an altitude of 1,000 m in southern parts of the skirts of Mt. Kuju and Mt.Taisen provide a sight to see in every season – the burning of the field in spring, summer camps, red and yellow leaves of trees in autumn and a sea of clouds in winter.

What is ONSEN?

‘ONSEN’ literary means ‘warm spring’ in Chinese characters and is equal to ‘hot springs”’in English. However, hot springs in English is basically a geological phenomenon of high temperature water emergence of ground water. When Japanese speak of ‘ONSEN’, it mean everything in and around it including the relaxing bath, heartwarming welcomes, traditional and innovative cooking , accommodations with soothing environments and interaction with staff of ryokan and the local people. Please enjoy the pleasure of ‘ONSEN’ in the land of Yufuin.

About Yufuin’s Onsen

Yufuin-Onsen is located in a small valley surrounded by mountains including the symbol of Yufu-dake. Fields and paddies are spread throughout the valley, cherry blossom and mustard flower in spring, green rice fields in summer, yellow ginkos and bright red maples in autumn and white snow covering the whole town in winter. Yufuin is not a typical busy touristy hot spring resort. Various ryokans(Japanese style inn) are scattered in a naturally rich environment where local people quietly live their ordinary lives. The longer you stay, the more you can feel and understand the lives of Yufuin locals.

 

온천의 마을, 유후인

유후인은 일본 규슈 지방의 오이타 현, 유후 시에 있는 작은 마을이다. 벳푸 시의 서쪽에 위치하고 있으며, 후쿠오카 시에서 기차로 2시간 남짓 걸리는 거리에 있는 도시로 벳푸, 구사쓰에 이어서 일본에서 3번째로 용출량이 많은 온천마을로도 유명하다. 때문에 유후인에는 다양한 온천여관이 있는데, 무소엔, 사이가쿠관 등 유후다케의 시원한 전망을 가지는 노천온천들이 있다.

특히 유후인은 수려한 자연 경관으로도 유명한데, 유후인 역에서 내리면 유후다케(1584m)라는 산이 웅장하면서도 자애로운 모습으로 유후인을 감싸고 있는 것을 발견할 수 있다. 역에서 긴린코라는 호수까지 이르는 길에는 다양한 상점들과 온천여관, 미술관 등의 시설들이 이어져있는데 호수의 바닥에서 차가운 물과 뜨거운 물이 함께 솟아나 생긴 안개 때문에 유후인의 아침이슬이 유명하다.

유후인 방문하기

후쿠오카에서 유후인에 가는 것은 JR열차를 타거나 고속버스로 가는 방법이 있다. 고속버스는 후쿠오카의 하카타교통센터, 텐진교통센터, 후쿠오카 공항 국내선 청사 등에서 떠나는 고속버스를 탑승하면 가능하다. 유후인에서는 유후인역앞의 버스센터에서 하차한다. 열차는 하카타역에서 출발하는데 하루 6번, 유후DX호, 유후호, 유후인노모리호 등의 열차가 있으며, 특히 유후인노모리호는 관광열차로 유명하다.
