‘Daily life of researching woman’ by Hong Il Hwa 홍일화 작가의 ‘여성탐구생활’

A Korean artist, Hong Il Hwa express his own subject consciousness as drew female portrait since his debut. He points out a slanted view, distorted view, contorted thought of human rather than cursory simple strange images as drew modified female portrait. And he focuses on ‘beauty of women’ for expressing real beauty of humans. So, he is well known artist with his unchanged subject ‘Daily life of researching woman’ in France & Korea.

In fact, he is a member of the Korean Modern Contemporary Printmakers Association, and a member of SONAMU artist association in Paris. He has come in earnest as a painter when he was a finalist in the Korean Modern Contemporary Printmakers Association contest exhibit in 2002, 2003. In 2004, he was awarded an excellence prize at the Korean Modern Contemporary Printmakers Association. And, he was attracted public attention by the republic of art critics when he won the Chunghyun Mecenat young artist award in 2008.

Especially, he suggests the real beauty for the man who lives in 2016 with his female portraits as series themes, like ‘Elle’, ‘Sous le ciel’, ‘Masque’, ‘Make Up’, ‘Portraits Ordinaires’, ‘Paysages Ordinaires’, ‘Persona’ from the recent. CultureM Magazine meets the Korean artist Hong Il Hwa who embodies the real beauty of the woman in the canvas.

‘여성탐구생활’이라는 주제를 통해 데뷔 이후 자신만의 올곧은 이야기를 전달해 온 홍일화 작가. 그는 여성들의 얼굴을 포함한 외적 이미지 변형과 왜곡을 통해 단순히 기괴한 이미지를 전달하기 보다는 여성의 ‘미’를 바라보는 일그러진 사고와 무의식에 각성을 호소하는 메시지를 캔버스에 담아온 꽤나 명망 있는 작가로 잘 알려져 있다.

2002년 한국 현대판화가협회 공모전에서 특선에 입상하며 본격적인 활동을 시작한 홍일화 작가는 2003년 한국 현대판화가협회 공모전에서 특선, 2004년 같은 공모전에서 우수상, 그리고 2008년에는 정헌메세나 재유럽 청년작가상을 수상하며 주목 받는 젊은 작가로 평단에 알려지기 시작했다. 현재 파리와 서울을 중심으로 글로벌한 활동을 펼치고 있는 홍일화 작가는 총 20회 이상의 개인전 개최, 40회 이상의 단체전에 참여했을 만큼 왕성한 활동을 펼치고 있다.

특히 프랑스와 한국에서 뜨거운 반응을 불러일으킨 ‘엘르’, ‘하늘아래’, ‘마스크’, ‘메이크 업’, ‘일상적 풍경’, ‘일상적 초상화’, 최근작 ‘페르소나’를 통해 홍일화 작가는 ‘미’를 바라보는 2016년 대한민국의 모든 사람들에게 심도 깊은 메시지를 던져왔다. 컬쳐엠매거진이 ‘여성탐구생활’을 통해 ‘여성과 미’, 그 불가분의 이야기를 캔버스에 담아내고 있는 홍일화 작가를 만났다.
