-Sewing Machine Drawing Show-

“Sewing machine is a play” – used as a motto of his work, and describing the very unusual name of artwork called sewing machine, artist Mingi Jung had a sewing machine drawing show at Seoul citizens hall on the 9th of May.

Painting with a needle as brush and thread as paint, sewing machine art is literally grafting sewing machine with art. ‘Sewing machine artist show’ was produced and performed by Mingi Jung and it is a fusion project that is a collaboration of sewing machine art and other genres of art.

Artist Mingi Jung opened up his performance by drawing a portrait of one of the audience members during the first session titled ‘Sewing machine portrait drawing’. Then during the second session’s ‘Sewing machine recycling’, he showed how he revived things we used and threw away on a daily basis and finally for his third session ‘Sewing machine artist meets fashion’, he performed a fusion work that reflected the ups and downs of how sewing machine art was being stitched together with other genres of art.

Mingi Jung’s creativity in using sewing machines, a practice that is fading from memory, and reviving it into an artistic performance, jumps through the genres and is at the frontline of various experimental arts that attempt to reflect human life and the environment. At the same time it is even more outstanding because audiences were entertained by participating and being part of the show.
The producer Dior Sa said “Mingi Jung’s work is opening up a new world that reinterprets various ways of life when our modern art thirsts for more imagination.”

Sewing Machine Artist Mingi Jung said “I want to rediscover the meaning of sewing machines and help distributing more sewing machines through my show. I am also trying to pioneer and develop the basis for this new genre of art, sewing machine drawing art. My plan for this summer is to visit Paris to be more inspired and in November I will be in Yokohama to broaden my identity as a sewing machine artist.”
