Queenstown is a resort town in Otago in the south-west of New Zealand’s South Island. It is built around an inlet called Queenstown Bay on Lake Waktipu, a long thin Z-shaped lake formed by glacial processes, and has spectacular views of nearby mountains such as The Remarkables, Cecil Peak, Walter Peak and just above the town – Ben Lomond and Queenstown Hill.

It has an estimated resident population of 30,200(June 2013 estimate). Queenstown is now known for its commerce-oriented tourism, especially adventure and ski tourism. It is popular with young international and New Zealand and Australian travellers alike.

전 세계 모든 관광객들이 꼭 한 번쯤은 가보고 싶어하는 관광 휴양지, 퀸스타운. 뉴질랜드 남섬 와카티푸 호수 근처에 위치한 도시로 압도적인 자연 경관 때문에 “빅토리아 여왕에 어울리는 곳″이라는 별칭에서 이름이 유래되었다.

연간 약 150만명 정도의 관광객이 찾아오는 퀸스타운은 여름에는 번지점프와 패러글라이딩, 제트보트, 낚시 등을 즐길 수 있는 레저의 천국이다. 또한 겨울에는 스키, 스노우보드, 증기선 관광을 즐길 수 있으며 번지점프의 유래지로도 유명하다. 특히 근처에 있는 애로우타운은 골드러쉬 시대에 번성했던 도시로 퀸스타운 만큼이나 인기 있는 관광지이다.
