The great cultural centers of Maori, Rotorua in New Zealand 마오리 문화의 중심지, 로토루아

The name Rotorua comes from Maori, the full name being ‘Te Rotorua-nui-a-Kahumatamomoe; roto’ means lake and rua two – Rotorua thus meaning ‘Second lake’. The name can also mean the equally appropriate ‘crater lake’.

Rotorua is a major destination for both domestic and international tourists; the tourism industry is by far the largest industry in the district. The city is known for its geothermal activity, and features geyesrs(notably the Pdhutu Geyser at Whakarewarewa) and hot mud pools. This thermal activity is sourced to the Rotorua caldera , on which the city lies. Also Rotorua is the great cultural centers of Maori. So, there are so many historical relics about Maori culture.

로토루아는 뉴질랜드 북섬의 중심에 자리잡은 마오리족 문화의 중심지로 뉴질랜드 최대의 관광 중심지이다. 마오리어로 로토는 호수, 루아는 둘을 의하며 즉 로토루아는 두 번째의 위대한 호수를 뜻한다. 화산과 지열 발전이 발달된 로토루아에는 지열활동으로 인한 간헐천이 세계적으로 유명하며 ‘와카레와레와’의 ‘포호투 간헐천’ 이 대표적이다. 코 끝을 톡 쏘는 이곳의 유황냄새는 다분히 이국적인 정취를 선사한다. 또한 뉴질랜드 원주민인 마오리족 문화의 중심지로 유명해 관광객을 위한 다양한 문화 체험 프로그램이 항상 준비되어 있다.
