BaekJae dynasty Royal Tomb, Muryeong king tomb 무령왕의 혼이 깃든 곳, 공주 송산리 고분군

Gongju Songsan-ri old tomb site is group of ancient in tombs including tomb of king, Baekjae, Muryeong-king. Especially, tomb of Muryeong king has a distinct historical value through ancient history in Korea.

Tomb of Muryeong king is a Historical Relic No. 12, it located san 5, Geumsong-dong, Gongju city. It was found when drainage work was conducted to prevent water penetration into the Songsanri old tombs No. 5 and 6 in 1971 and excavated for the first time about 1,500 years after it was made. In particular, people were so excited because the tomb clearly recorded that the tomb was for King Muryeong and his wife. 충남 공주시 금성동에 있는 송산리 고분군은 백제시대 무령왕릉을 포함한 7기의 무덤이 모여있는 곳이다. 특히 송산리 고분군의 7기의 무덤 중에서 역사적으로 가장 큰 가치를 지니고 있는 무령왕릉은 1971년 7월 5일 송산리 제5, 6호 고분의 침수방지를 위한 배수로 공사중 우연히 발굴되었다.

발굴결과 부장품 중 지석은 무덤의 주인공이 무령왕이라는 사실이 명백히 기록되어 있어 세상 사람들을 크게 흥분시켰다. 더불어 이 지석은 삼국사기에 실린 내용의 신빙성을 높였으며, 백제인들의 사상 연구에 중요한 단서가 되어 백제사 연구에 있어 가치가 매우 큰 유물이다. 세계적으로도 희귀환 송산리 고분군의 무령왕릉의 발견 자체 뿐만 아니라 곳에서 발견된 관장식과 장신구, 생활용품도 대단하지만, 무덤 벽돌의 제작 수준과 공법은 당대의 우수한 건축기술을 보여주고 있다.
