‘Surrealism and objects exhibition’ at pompidou center ‘초현실주의와 오브제전’

The Pompidou Center in Paris recognized as the one of modern art Mecca is the ambitious cultural space project planned by French President Georges Pompidou time in 1977. From the point of architectural view at that time, the Pompidou Center exposed drains, gas pipes, and vents. It was significantly different from conventional construction methods and at that time it was so revolutionary.

The Georges Pompidou National Museum of Modern Art has a major collection of modern and contemporary art works. The center organizes the contemporary art exhibition every season. Until last March 25, 2013, the exhibition has recorded the largest audience and it was a great success. And then, again, this time, from October 30, 2013 to March 3, 2014, another exhibition about the surrealism is organized. The exhibition is planned in the title of “Surrealism and objects’ and it cover the works of surrealist major authors.

In this exhibition, the Surrealist tendency of videos, installations, paintings are exhibited. The exhibition is composed on the subject ‘Doll’, ‘Ready-made’, ‘Disturbing unfamiliarity’. The Surrealism is one of trends of art inspired by the dream and the unconscious of the Psychology; dominated zeitgeist of contemporary art. In this exhibition, from today’s young artists like Théo Mercier, maestro Dali, Duchamp, Man Ray, Giacometti, Magritte, Chirico, Surrealist works on display.

현대미술의 메카 중 하나로 인식되고 있는 파리의 퐁피두센터.  1977년 당시 프랑스 대통령 조르쥬 퐁피두 시절 기획된 야심적인 문화공간으로 퐁피두센터 건축물은 배수관, 가스관, 그리고 통풍구 등을 드러내어 기존의 건축방식과는 확연히 달라, 당시로서는 가히 획기적이었다.

현재 퐁피두센터 국립현대미술관에는 현대미술작품을 소장하고 있으며, 소장품 전시관 이외에 매 시즌 현대미술 기획전을 열고있다. 지난 2013년 3월 25일까지 진행되었던 초현실주의 거장 <살바도르달리 전>이 역대 최대의 관람객을 기록하며 성황리에 끝나 화제가 되었는데, 그 후, 다시 이번에 2013년 10월 30일부터 2014년 3월 3일까지 살바도르 달리를 비롯한 초현실주의 주요작가들의 작품을 “초현실주의와 오브제’라는 타이틀로 기획되어 전시하고 있다.

이번 전시는 초현실주의 경향의 영상물, 설치작품, 회화작품 등을 ‘인형, ‘레디 메이드’, ‘불안한 낯섦’이라는 테마로 구성되었다. 초현실주의는 꿈, 무의식의 지배로부터 영감을 받아 예술화한 현대 예술사조의 하나이다.  이번 전시에서는 달리Dali, 마르쉘 뒤샹, 만 레이, 자코메티, 마그리트, 키리코로부터 테오 메르시에와 같은 오늘날 젊은 작가까지 초현실주의 경향을 보이는 작품을 전시하고 있다.
