Hanbok meets the performing arts, ‘Color Space’ 한복 아트 퍼포먼스 ‘색 공간’

Hanbok Art Performance ‘Color Space’ was played at Seoul Arts Center, Jayu Theater in 28th January. ‘Hanbok’ is the traditional Korean dress worn by women and men. This term literally means ‘Korean clothing’. Recently the Hanbok has been gaining widespread attention. It embodies many of the social and aesthetic values of Korean people. ‘Color Space’ transforms the Hanbok into an art form. The performance consists of three parts, ‘Color’, ‘Shape’, and ‘Fabric’.
In ‘Color’, its vibrant ‘Obangsaek’ captures the audiences’ gaze. ‘Obangsaek’ means five traditional colors: yellow, blue, red, white, and black. In ‘Shape’, you see the beauty of the Hanbok’s form. On stage the clothing maintains harmony with the full range of human emotions: happiness, anger, sorrow, and pleasure. Finally, in ‘Fabric’, the use of a variety of materials extends its diversity. CultureM Magazine had an interview with director Park Seon Ock who designed the Hanbok for the performance.

2014년 1월 28일 예술의전당 자유소극장에서 한복예술 ‘여백’이 주관하는 한복 아트 퍼포먼스 ‘색 공간’이 열렸다. 색채, 형태, 소재에 초점을 맞춰 여백만의 한복 작품으로 구성된 이번 공연은 전통적인 선에 현대적인 색과 이야기를 더해 관객들의 눈을 사로잡았다. 오방색을 중심으로 한복 색채의 아름다움을 조명한 1부, 인간의 희로애락의 감성과 맞닿는 한복의 형태미에 초점을 맞춘 2부, 한복의 주된 소재의 폭을 넓혀 시도한 3부까지.
한복의 전통미학을 극대화하기 위해 전통연희, 영상, 무용 등 다양한 장르와의 협업으로 탄생된 한복 아트 퍼포먼스 ‘색 공간’. 한복 디자이너이자 연출 및 의상 디자인을 총 지휘한 여백의 박선옥님을 만났다.
