ROVE magazine’s 2nd edition issue is DMZ. It is a strip of land running across the Korean Peninsula that serves as a buffer zone between South Korea and North Korea. In fat, millions of families were divided by the three-year Korean War, which ended in 1953, and have been barred from crossing the armed border dividing the two countries. So, DMZ is a tragic trace of the Korean Peninsula.

Travel to the DMZ
The Korean Demilitarized, DMZ is closed by 15 cities and gun included Cheorwon, Yeoncheon, Incheon, Yanggu.
It is not guaranteed that these places are the most beautiful in the world or excellent.
But you can feel the only emotion with no parallel anywhere else in the world.
Whatever it is, it has already enough reason to travel there.

 DMZ로 떠나는 여행
DMZ는철원, 연천, 인천, 고성, 양구등 15개시, 군에 인접해있습니다. 그 지역들이 세상 어느 곳 보다 아름답거나,
대한민국의 어느 땅 보다 훌륭하다고 말할 수는 없습니다.
그러나 당신이 가본 그 어떤 곳에서도 겪지 못한 감정을 느낄 수 있습니다.
그게 무엇이든, 그것만으로 여행의 이유는 충분합니다.

There are still remain gunshot in Cheorwon
I felt too much emotion here, but I don’t want to say anything. Maybe it is true that anyone correctly explain about this land as a man who was born in the Korean Peninsula. Although some damaged old building in Cheorwon during Korean civil war which was designed as cultural assets, there are still remain gunshot. And theses soulless building remained all alone. Scar left by the war are still visible everywhere in Cheorwon.

However, Cheorwon is not the city where still remain the people weighed down by the war. There is a home for valuable new lives. This is the Korean Demilitarized, DMZ. It is the living foundation of many wild animals thanks to any touch by human. And it is the very rare temperate territory where keeps the nude in nature internationally.

It is the place where still remains a national tragedy, Cheorwon. Although the Korean was holding a gun on the Korea, some damaged old building in Cheorwon holds a silent protest against war.

전쟁이 끝나지 않은 곳, 철원
수많은느낌이교차했지만어떤말도쉽게꺼내고싶지않다. 어쩌면한사람의감정으로이땅을설명하는일은불가능할것이다. 철원에서만난근대문화유적들은아직끝나지않은전쟁의상흔을간직한, 여전히사람의발걸음이거의닿지않은땅위에있다.

철원의 모습을 다소 을씨년스럽게 느낄 수도 있지만 그렇다고 마냥 우울해할 일만은 아니다. 사람의 발길이 많지 않았던 덕분에 수많은 야생 동물의 삶의 터전이 되었기 때문이다. 이렇게 오랫동안 사람의 손을 타지 않은 채 생태계가 보존되고 있는 온대 지역은 세계적으로 드물 정도다.

번영했던 도시의 흔적은 사람들이 찾지 않아 생명력 약한 건축물이 되어갈지언정 서로에게 총부리를 겨눠야 했던 곳. 지금도 서로를 겨누고 있는 현실을 잊지 말라 강변하는 듯 근대문화유적들은 변함없이 그곳을 지키고 있다.

The Korean Demilitarized is a strip of land running across the Korean Peninsula that serves as a buffer zone between South Korea. The DMZ is a de-facto border barrier, which runs along the 38th parallel north. The DMZ cuts the Korean Peninsula roughly in half, crossing the 38th parallel on an angle, with the west end of the DMZ lying south of the parallel and the east end lying north of it. It was created as part of the Korean Armistice Agreement between North Korea, the People’s Republic of China, and the United Nations Command forces in 1953.
It is 250 kilometres long, approximately 4 km wide and, despite its name, is the most heavily militarized border in the world. The Northern Limit Line, or NLL, is the de-facto maritime boundary between North and South Korea in the Yellow Sea and the coastline and islands on both sides of the NLL are also heavily militarized.

사람의 손길을 거부한 곳, 한반도 비무장 지대
한반도 비무장 지대는 한국전쟁 이후 체결된 정전 협정에 의해 성립된 비무장지대이다. 이 지역은 일반인의 활동이 엄격히 금지되어 자연 생태계가 보존되어 있으며, 아시아 최대의 자연보호지역으로 주목 받고 있다. DMZ 일대는 자연생태계의 정점인 포유류와 조류의 분포 면에서 한국 내 제일의 종 다양성을 지니고 있으며, 반달가슴곰, 여우, 사향노루, 산양, 수달 등 가장 많은 천연기념물과 멸종위기종의 개체수가 서식하는 장소이기도 하다. 또한 DMZ 주변은 하천과 습지가 잘 발달되어 있어, 다양한 어종과 풍부한 개체수를 간직하고 있다.
