The essence of Vietnam culture, Hoi An 호이안에 가면 베트남이 보인다

Hoi An is a city of Vietnam, on the coast of the East Sea in the South Central Coast region of Vietnam. It is located in Quang Nam Province and recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Hoi An Ancient Town is an exceptionally well-preserved example of a South-East Asian trading port dating from the 15th to the 19th century.

In 1999, this old town was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO as a well-preserved example of a Southeast Asian trading port of the 15th to 19th centuries, with buildings that display a unique blend of local and foreign influences. According to the UNESCO Impact Report 2008 on Hoi An, tourism has bought changes to the area which are not sustainable without mitigation.

Due to the increased number of tourists visiting Hoi An a variety of activities are emerging which allow guests to get out of the old quarter and explore by motorbike, bicycle, Kayak or motorboat. The Thu Bon River is still essential to the region more than 500 years after António de Faria first navigated it and it remains an essential form of food production and transport.

호이안은 베트남 꽝남성의 연안에 있는 작은 도시이다. 15세기부터 19세기 까지 동남아시아의 중심 무역항이 있었던 곳으로 1999년 세계유산으로 선정된 베트남 대표하는 관광도시로 사랑 받는 곳이다. 중국의 어느 마을을 연상케 하는 호이안의 구시가지는 비교적 예전의 모습을 잘 간직하고 있는 편이다. 당시 베트남 무역의 중심지가 호이안에서 다낭으로 옮겨 가면서 20세기 베트남에서 일어난 수 많은 포화 속에서 비교적 안전했기 때문이다.

지금은 호텔, 식당, 바, 맞춤 옷가게, 기념품 가게 등이 구 시가지 중심에 자리잡고 있는 전형적인 관광 도시로 낮은 기와 지붕 집과 예전 모습 그대로의 도로 등에서 이국적인 정취를 느낄 수 있다. 특히 호이안 구시가지의 좁은 골목에는 전통 먹거리와 고즈넉한 시골 정취가 가득해 많은 1년 365일 관광객들의 발길이 끊이지 않는다.
