A French artist, Jeff Roland’s art piece ‘Mektoub’ 거부 할 수 없는 한 단어

‘Mektoub’ is a piece showing that whatever individuals try to do, no matter how much they struggle, they are confronted to forces that will force the individual to feel part of a whole, be it with pleasure , or through pressure. There are different forms or pressure that have existed throughout time, and they take more or less importance according to the era.

It can be Religion, the Economy, Education, the Family, Couples your gender, your sexual orientation your age, all these categorize us and shape us into someone that does not correspond to the way we see ourselves in our inner soul , neither in our mirror. If you look carefully, you will see in this painting, representations of each of these pressure factors. Let this be your Easter Egg Hunt!

아랍어에 메크툽(Mektoub)이라는 단어가 있다. 우리의 삶은 신의 섭리에 의해 이미 대강의 윤곽이 그려져 있는 까닭에 각자의 운명이 따로 있다는 의미로 아무리 저항해도 거스를 수 없는 절대적인 것을 말할 때 사용하기도 한다. 하지만, 인간은 본디 개인과 사회를 향한 투쟁과 극복의 역사로 진화해 왔기에 프랑스 작가, 제프 롤랑드는 고통 속에서도 극복을 향한 인간의 내면을 표현하고자 했다. 컬쳐엠매거진이 그의 최근작 ‘Mektoub’를 공개한다.
