Let’s be honest, ‘Bonjour, Menteurs’ 안녕, 거짓말쟁이들아

A woman and men are staring at each other plain face. What are they thinking about? We pour out many words under the name of “socializing with people” as we live in fast moving world. Our relationship starts with a greeting to a stranger. I may not be fine, but I still have to care if the stranger had a good day. Everyday the fatigue gets heavier on my body with a daily battle in modern life hell, I wonder if my morning is really fine.

Am I really fine when I answer ‘I am fine’ to a question ‘how are you?’ Can I tell them how I really feel instead of a robotic reflex answer ‘Your welcome’ to a simple complement? We feel most exhausted when we have to lie against our own mind just to keep up with social engagement.

Today will go and tomorrow will come and our not-so-special routine begins again. As tie comes and goes, our daily lies repeats itself. We are tired of our daily lies. We simply wish to say that ‘I am not fine’ when I am not fine and ‘I am not doing ok’ when I am not doing ok.

무표정한 두 남녀가 정면을 응시하고 있다. 그들은 무엇을 생각하고 있는 것인가? 우리는 바쁜 일상생활 속에서 사람들과 어울리기 위해 하룻동안 무수한 말들을 쏟아낸다. 타인과는 습관처럼 상대방의 안부를 물으며 그렇게 우리의 관계는 시작된다. 설령 내가 안녕하지 못하더라도 상대방이 안녕한지, 늘 피곤에 찌들어 하루하루가 지옥 같아도 정말 오늘 아침이 나에게 좋은 아침인지 자문한다.

그리고 ‘괜찮냐’고 묻는 상대방에게 ‘괜찮다’고 대답하는 나는 정말 괜찮은 것인지, 칭찬을 들었을 때 ‘별말씀을, 과찬의 말씀인걸요’라는 무조건반사처럼 나오는 대답대신 우리의 솔직한 마음을 표현할 수는 없는지 생각해본다. 우리는 인간관계를 유지하기 위해 본인의 속마음과 다른 말을 해야 할 때 피곤함을 느낀다.

오늘이 가고 내일이 오면 우리의 특별하지 않은 일상은 그렇게 또 시작이 된다. 하룻동안 밀물과 썰물이 반복되듯 우리의 일상적인 거짓말은 그렇게 반복이 된다. 우리는 일상의 거짓말이 피곤하다. 안녕하지 못할 땐 안녕하지 못하다고 괜찮지 않을 땐 괜찮지 않다라고 말하고 싶다.
