Get onboard the ‘Stargate Express’ 당신을 스타게이트로 초대합니다

We can trust our imagination to take us into the universes we want to visit, and it is the most accessible and free expression of our freedom. In a world that seldom takes the time to let us breathe and discover who we truly are, I want my paintings to be the door which will open your imagination, make you realize that from there, everything is possible. Within our minds, we can find the strength to reach the Stars.

In this painting, the adventurers have eventually reached the site where they can share the presence of the revered Goddess, dancing and encouraging them to go beyond their established skills, always get better, higher, keep learning, and desiring. The painting is partly oils and cut outs of papers on which marbling paint has produced effects, which even if random always produce beautiful patterns, and they are there to remind us that sometimes, all we need to get better , to invent, is to start.

Start from within and let go in any direction, as our unconscious always knows where we should aim, as the surrealists have shown in the past. The stars are within our reach, and it can go pretty fast, get onboard the Stargate Express!”

상상, 그것은 우리들이 꿈꾸고 도달하고 싶은 곳을 향한 가장 창의적인 사고 과정이다. 분명 인류는 지금까지 수 많은 상상을 통해 발전해왔으며 앞으로도 성장할 수 있는 가장 큰 원동력이 될 것이다. 특히 예술작품은 이런 인간의 상상력을 가장 많이 담아내는 역할로도 사용되어 왔다. 당신의 지금 이 작품을 보고 어떤 상상의 나래를 펼치고 있는지.

프랑스 출신의 작가 제프 롤랑드는 상상을 주제로 한 오랫동안 추상화를 그려온 작가이다. 특히 그는 본인의 그림을 통해 상상이 현실이 되기까지의 과정을 함축적으로 보여주고자 오랜 시간 작품 활동을 해왔다. 때문에 화려한 색깔과 반복되는 패턴, 추상적인 인물과 형태는 우리들이 평소 상상으로만 자각해 온 무형의 형태를 실체로 포착하고자 한 제프 롤랑드의 또 다른 상상이라고 할 수 있을 것이다. 컬쳐엠매거진이 작가 제프 롤랑드의 ‘Stargate Express’을 공개한다.
