The real heart of China, Shanghai 중국의 21세기가 시작되는 도시, 상하이

Shanghai is the largest Chinese city by population and the largest city proper by population in the world. It is one of the four direct-controlled municipalities of the People’s Republic of China, with a population of more than 24 million as of 2013. It is a global financial center, and a transport hub with the world’s busiest container port.

Located in the Yangtze River Delta in East China, Shanghai sits on the south edge of the mouth of the Yangtze in the middle portion of the Chinese coast. The municipality borders the provinces of Jiangsu and Zhejiang to the north, south and west, and is bounded to the east by the East China Sea.

Shanghai is a popular tourist destination renowned for its historical landmarks such as The Bund, City God Temple and Yu Garden as well as the extensive Lujiazui skyline and major museums including the Shanghai Museum and the China Art Museum. It has been described as the “showpiece” of the booming economy of mainland China. Because of Shanghai’s status as the cultural and economic center of East Asia for the first half of the twentieth century, it is popularly seen as the birthplace of everything considered modern in China.

2015년 중국의 모든 것을 담고 있는 도시, 상하이. 현대 중국 경제의 중심지이자 문화, 상업, 금융, 산업, 통신의 중심지인 상하이는 뉴욕과 런던에 이어 세계에서 세 번째로 큰 금융 중심지이다. 지금은 극동 아시아의 가장 큰 상업도시인 상하이는 사실 작은 어촌 도시였다. 하지만 중국의 개방정책과 맞물려 경제와 금융, 무역에 있어서 중요한 중심으로 자리잡기 시작했으며 현재 상하이는 중국대륙에서 경제가 가장 발달된 도시로 거듭났다.

또한 상하이에는 현대적인 건물뿐 아니라 전통적인 건물도 많이 남아 있어 전 세계 관광객들의 발길을 불러 모으고 있다. 신고전주의 양식으로 지어진 HSBC 빌딩에서부터 첨탑 형식의 싸쑨하우스, 인민광장 관구에 있는 상하이 박물관과 상하이 대극원, 중국에서 가장 높은 구조물 중의 하나인 동방명주탑, 중국 본토의 가장 높은 고층건물이며 세계에서는 세 번째인 세계금융센터까지. 컬쳐엠매거진의 컨트리뷰터 이수호 기자가 담아낸 상하이의 모습을 두 차례에 걸쳐 사진으로 공개한다.
