A French artist Jeff Roland’s art piece, ‘The End Of Innocence’ 순수의 종말

Innocence ends when we realize that we do not only lead an independent life, magically sustained by an exterior force that we can’t really see, or don’t want to see. As in the Karma theory, everything is linked . We are interdependent, we need other human beings to feel truly human, even if it is only through books or movies, and we are complementary.

We would like to know how to do most things alone, yet, it is a great thing that each person’s talent brings a little ‘plus’ that is unique. In this picture, the two characters stand each on a side, unique beings, yet the colours and materials and textures they share make them complete. Of course, realizing this implies that we have responsibilities, that what we think, what we do, actually counts…and this starts the end of innocence. ‘

인간은 존재 자체로 독립적인 삶을 영위 할 수 없으며, 원하든 원하지 않든 외부의 영향을 받는다는 것을 인지할 때 자신의 무지를 깨닫게 된다. 카르마 이론에 따르면, 모든 것은 연결되어 있기 때문에 인간은 상호의존적이며 다른 사람들과의 관계를 통해 진정한 자유를 얻게 되는 것이다.

서로 등을 맞대고 있는 작품 속 두 캐릭터는 색, 질감, 구도 모든 면에서 완벽한 형태를 갖추고 있지는 않다. 하지만 상호 대비되는 불완전한 캐릭터는 서로를 보완해주는 역할을 하며 우리가 생각하고 행동하는 모든 것들이 누군가 에게는 직접적인 영향을 준다는 것을 말하고 싶었다. 순수의 종말, 그것은 파괴가 아닌 창조의 시작이라고 할 수 있을 것이다.
