The beautiful souvenir in my life, La Petite France 내 머리 속의 프랑스
Texts & Photos by Sue Chun
The first purpose of my reason why I traveled whole France was only wine. However, more I visited many of regions for wine, I more found another impressive thing, a little village. There were many petite villages where I could meet people living there. All of their stories I had were just like wine’s story. I would love to show the photos of several small towns and villages in France as my last wine story.
Beaune – Bourgogne
The wines from Bourgogne definitely show us what is elegance of wine. Beaune is the main town in Bourgogne. In the center of Beaune, there is the famous wine auction, Hospices de Beaune and museum. You can enjoy seeing all this town on foot, also of course, you can enjoy the beautiful Bourgogne wines in every restaurant in Beaune.
Chambolle, Vougeot, Romanée – Bourgogne
Outside of Beaune, you can keep finding the actual wine villages surrounding vineyards aside. Most of these villages gave its name as their wine’s origin name. When you see the village name, you can guess where its wine came from. Here usually very calm and less people walking around, however it has the opposite scenery during the harvest season, it’s one of the busiest town for wine making and harvesting. I would like to recommend you to have a bicycle ride following the vineyards. Here are some photos of the most famous wine villages, Chambolle, Vougeot and Romanée.
Gigondas – Rhône
There is Rhône region between Bourgogne and the south France. Lyon is the big city in Rhône, however, around Rhône there are many small towns and villages you can visit as well. Gigondas is also one of. In Gigondas, there are little buildings you will like. The town name of Gigondas is also the origin name of wine produced nearby here. Most of vineyards here are located surrounding Gigondas, and many of beautiful housing buildings are in the town including the church. In the villages of France, it is very general to have two old buildings located in the center, which are a city hall and a church.
Limoux – Languedoc
You can find Limoux in Languedoc where is the south France. The south France is next to the Mediterranean Sea, however Limoux is the inland area though. Most of vineyards are located in the high altitude in Limoux and it’s mostly the vineyards of Chardonnay variety. Limoux is also the name of wine origin here. The fresh wind from Mediterranean Sea effects to produce very pure wines. When you have a chance to visit Limoux, try a glass of white wine and sparkling wine.
Maury – Roussillon
Is it a bowel of soy sauce? You might be very curious if you see big bowels in Maury. This small village, Maury is the famous town for this bowel which is actually wine, exactly sweet wine. Traditionally Maury produces the sweet wine called VDN(vin doux naturel). The sweetness of this wine is due to the natural wine making process, not adding any artificial flavor. The VDN of Maury is a perfect desert wine, well balanced of sweetness and fresh acidity. It will be a lovely wine for any of you.
Paris
The last city was Paris. Paris is the most romantic city everyone adores. However, it was rather the last city to flight back home. But anyhow I can’t miss Paris. Many people might already show a lot of photos of Paris. So I am presenting very special artwork for Paris, it’s by the 10 years old young Korean artist. The glamorous object of her artwork is Sainte-Chapelle in Paris. She expressed her impression for Paris as the beautiful artwork. This lovely painting could make me finish my wine travelling which was same as so much memorable like her artwork.
