Reflecting the vitality of the nature 폭발하는 생명력을 주목하다, 작가 이지호

A Korean artist who expresses the vitality of the nature on the canvas, Lee Ji Ho. Most of her art works are drawings and paintings. She uses oil on canvas. The story she tries to deliver is about organism and growth of nature so she draws images of nature on the canvas. It can be about enormous cycle of nature and she tries to paint the very image of its growth as it is.

In fact, she has thought a lot about what kind of alternative world can her painting create and she started painting the alternative world of organisms with elements of nature. In the alternative world she painted, there isn’t an absolute authoritative figure or power relationship so there isn’t any power struggle or hierarchy. She wanted to bring the discussion of ‘Nature’s Paradigm and prove that it is all connect to the much bigger cycle. You can simply think that she is trying to build that alternative world for this. CulturM Magazine meets the Korean artist Lee Ji ho.

폭발하는 생명력에 주목하는 작가 이지호. 사실 그녀에게 ‘생’이라는 것은 끈끈한 에너지, 변화무쌍한 리듬으로 이루어진 일종의 날것의 상태 그 자체이다. 그리고 애초에 ‘생’ 자체의 모습에는 어떠한 경계도 틀도 없었지만 사람들은 자꾸만 선을 짓고 규정하여 그 속에 스스로 갇히고 만다. 결국 이지호 작가의 작업은 스스로를 비워내고 본인의 경계를 해체하기 위한 고민의 흔적이라고 할 수 있다.

사실 그녀가 관심을 갖고 주목하고자 하는 주제는 생태적 패러다임이고 키워드는 ‘생장하는 세계’이다. 때문에 그녀는 산과 들, 강변, 논밭을 돌아다니면서 얻는 시각적 경험이 작업구상에 쓰이고 이런 이미지들을 무작위로 제시하고 중첩하고 해체시켜 화면 위에 흩뿌려놓는다. 결국 이러한 유기적 표상들은 서로 뒤섞이고 중첩되고 삭제되면서 우연적이고 새로운 장면들을 발생시켜 회화 자체에서도 또 다른 생성으로 나타난다.

2013년 Scattering space 시리즈를 선보이며 작가 특유의 시선을 캔버스에 담아낸 이지호 작가는 2014년에 생장, 생태의 운동성 그 자체에 대한 표현과 관객의 입장에 대한 고민을 거듭했고, 2015년에 와서는 좀 더 구체적이고 개인적인 이미지를 끌어오기에 이른다. 컬쳐엠매거진 캔버스 속 무한한 확장을 그리는 이지호 작가를 만났다.
