Burning action is an action when we express the most emphatic denial. So we burns someone portrait or symbol for suggesting a strong dissatisfaction or denial. As an artist, I would like to look at thing ‘Burning action’ from the name of art without immoral conduct or violence perspective. When we burn some famous images or photos, we can see some distorted or disappeared images unlike the origin.

But the ‘burning action’ was already finished, our original carved images stimulates associations for finding the original images in the ashes. In short a normal burning as we know, it means an extinction after complete combustion. But in case of this work, it is possible that we can recognize the original image although some images after complete combustion. So, this work leaves an impression behind transcend death, ‘reborn’

As we can see from the achievements, the trace of fire made patterns and complete combustion made a totally different thing ‘the ashes’ unlike the origin. Also, we can find the breaking surface in this solid. Finally, I can get the complete combustion image through these destruction acting, ‘fire’. And I made these ashes an objet of art with 20cm X 30cm X 6cm acryl box. So, I suggest a new way of image reproduction with these ashes.

불태우는 행위는 가장 강한 부정을 나타내는 행위로써 우리는 정치적인 측면에 강한 불만을 제기하거나 부정하고자 할 때 그의 초상화나 상징을 불태운다. 논란이 될만하고 비도덕적인 행위가 될 수 있는 태우기를 예술이란 이름으로 용인될 수 있는 그 경계로 데리고 와서 그 사물이 가지고 있는 본질에 대해 접근해 보고자 했다.

유명한 이미지들을 태우면, 태우는 과정에서 발생한 왜곡 되거나 소실된 이미지는 이미 우리 머릿속에 각인되어 있는 이미지가 그 형상을 추적하여 본래의 이미지를 연상시키는 작용을 한다. 일반적인 ‘태우기’는 완전연소를 통한 소멸을 뜻하나 이 작업을 통해서는 이미지들이 완전 연소가 된 후에도 본래의 이미지를 알아볼 수 있었고 마치 죽음을 초월하여 부활한 것 같은 인상을 준다.

작업에서 보듯 표면 위에 불길이 지나간 흔적이 무늬를 남기고, 불에 타는 파괴라는 작용을 통해 종이에서 재라는 화학적 성질이 전혀 다른 상태로 변하게 된다. 또한 고체에서만 가능한 표면의 깨짐 현상을 연소가 된 이미지에서도 발견할 수 있다. 이 같은 작업을 통해 일반적으로 우리가 알고 있던 파괴의 매개체, 불이라는 재료를 통해서 완전 연소된 이미지 얻을 수 있었다. 그리고 그 재를 20cm X 30cm X 높이 6cm의 아크릴 박스에 넣어 오브제화 시켜 연소의 다른 측면을 이용한 새로운 이미지 재생산의 방법을 제시해 보았다.
