Lee Ji Sun’s art life of research, ‘About the morning in Paris’ 파리의 아침에 관하여

Relaxed body, I raise the eyelids lightly. I press the navel of the mobile phone lying next to me during the whole night. Dazzling display shows its face on which I hardly read the numbers and dimly recognize the time. Yet. A message arrived in silence last night seems to transcend time and space, wearing a red badge. Soon after, the alarm rings. 7:07. Following the rumble of garbage trucks passing by outside of the window, few cars pass away, making relatively small noises.
Cold and damp air is deeply layered in the outer darkness. I cross the room slightly covered by dust from the other day and open the window to refresh the indoor air full of heating breathes. Behind the sharpness of the cold morning which surprises me every day, I turn back to the bathroom. I open the mouth whose entrance is forgotten like a dark cave, to brush the teeth and rinse the matted hair where little dreams are still stuck here and there. The fresh air coming into the room through the narrow interstice flies around the room and approaches steamy shower booth.
I turn the light on not unlike yesterday, stand in front of a mirror attached in the same place. Larger movements of outside world hear beyond the back of the ear. Holding hands of busy mom and dad to go to school, children make sounds as playful as birds that wake up the entire street in the morning. Cars line up like sausages growling to hurry a second, and play an orchestra all together to the driver who missed the step on the concrete stage. I turn the dryer on and clear the noises of outside by the one from inside.
During few minutes where the rising sun stays in parallel with the eyes, the white walls of the room wear the patterns of tree branches standing outside, become the stage of the shadows of passing people on the street, and make the waves by swaying curtains. The short moment is gone, the light pattern falls down to the floor and then disappears. When the sunlight erases clearly the contour of the moon, diligent passengers beyond the window arrive somewhere and the kids are already around their friends.
Unconsciousness standing in the dim boundaries between yesterday and today finally wakes up, by drawing a smile next to the others filled one after one in the calendar. Following the untouchable repetition, but feeling the smallest differences, the morning ritual is almost done. After I swipe away yesterday chips with fallen hair, I put together the pieces of notes and dreams scattered in every corner, to make the phrase of the day.
