There is a saying ‘As fast as crab’s eyes disappear at southern wind’ in Korea. It describes how fast a crab can hide its eyes in, which is used to describe how fast one can finish a bowl of rice because of one particular side dish. That is what we call ‘The Rice Thief’ and today I would like to introduce 2 of the most popular rice thieves: ‘Ganjang Gejang and Ganjang Saewoo.
It’s at the entrance to fall, October when the air becomes rather cool and we all start to crave warm broth and seafood with fresh seawater scent. It’s around this time of the year Korean epicures think of Sockcho in Gangwon province.
