It started when a British doctor William Thomas Angove immigrated to Australia and planted grapes and produced wine for medical treatment purposes. In the beginning it was more like hobby, eventually it turn into a business as the quality of the wine got better each year and the demand followed.

Their wine uses Barossa grapes and other McLaren grapes but its types are various. Not only do they have Shiraz, Australia’s prominent grape but they also blend with grapes I haven’t even heard of such as Temporanillo, Sangiovese, Aglianico and etc. I really liked the way they produce their wine purely out of their own passion for wine.

한도르프는 호주에서 가장 오래된 독일 정착촌이라고 하는데, 1839년에 프러시아(지금의 독일)에서 종교 박해를 피해 탈출한 루터교인들이 시초라고 한다. 당시 그들을 태우고 온 살신성인의 선장 이름이 한(Hahn)이었고, 도르프(dorf)는 독일어로 마을이라는 뜻으로 결국 한도르프가 된 것이다.
