ROVE magazine’s 2nd edition issue is DMZ. It is a strip of land running across the Korean Peninsula that serves as a buffer zone between South Korea and North Korea. Travel to the DMZ
The Korean Demilitarized, DMZ is closed by 15 cities and gun included Cheorwon, Yeoncheon, Incheon, Yanggu.
It is not guaranteed that these places are the most beautiful in the world or excellent.
But you can feel the only emotion with no parallel anywhere else in the world.
Whatever it is, it has already enough reason to travel there.

 DMZ로 떠나는 여행
DMZ는철원, 화천, 연천, 인천, 고성, 양구등 15개시, 군에 인접해있습니다.
그 지역들이 세상 어느 곳 보다 아름답거나, 대한민국의 어느 땅 보다 훌륭하다고 말할 수는 없습니다.
그러나 당신이 가본 그 어떤 곳에서도 겪지 못한 감정을 느낄 수 있습니다.
그게 무엇이든, 그것만으로 여행의 이유는 충분합니다.

It is not an easy trip for arrive there. Because, every person visiting there is searched included identification process, write a pledge etc. But, I feel it is totally easy process. In layman’s terms, i would rather so joyous because it is possible just here. I can only do tie my shoelaces when I walk draw alongside mine sign. Sometime, deep grief changes the warmth. That’s all.

Dutayeon is located in the civilian control line. During 50 years, this area was closed to the publics for military reasons. It opened to the civilian in 2004, now, we can tour there just identification process in November 2013 without advance registration. We can freely feel natural environment. But, by the same token, it requires attention in Dutayeon. In fact, Dutayeon means ‘just see, and ensoul the heart’. So we can neither swimming nor running there even though Dutayeon is so clean & beautiful.

Yanggu is located the center of Korean peninsula, in short, Yanggu called navel of Korea. And Yanggu is a very beautiful place with many magnificent mountain, river etc. With the setting of the sun, pitch darkness fell in Yanggu’s night. A night with quiet gloss. After 8:00 pm, we can see the most brighten star in the sky of Yanggu.

 

쉬운 여정은 아니다. 각종 서약서 작성과 본인 확인 절차, 어쩔 수 없이 긴장하게 되는 검문도 수시로 이어진다. 신기한 건 이 과정이 그다지 수고스럽게 느껴지지 않는다는 것이다. 여기서만 가능하니 차라리 기껍달까. 양쪽으로 ‘지뢰’ 표지판을 두고 걸으며 우리가 할 수 있는 게 고작 운동화 끈을 바짝 조이는 일뿐이라도 어쩌겠나. 늑골 아래 고이는 슬픔이 그래도 퍽 다정한 것, 그걸로 충분하다.

두타연은 민통선 안에 위치해, 50여 년간 출입이 통제되어 오다 2004년 개방된 곳이다. 사전등록 없이 신분증 확인만으로 즉시 출입이 가능해진 것도 지난해 11월부터. 잘 보존된 청정자연을 둘러볼 수 있다는 게 포인트지만 같은 이유로 더욱 세심한 주의가 필요하다. 두타연은 ‘눈으로 보고, 마음으로 담아가는’거라고. 물이 맑다고 물장구를 칠 수 없고 초목이 우거졌다고 해서 뛰놀 수 없는 곳이니 당연하다. 다만 계절 따라 표정이 달라지는 풍경을 마음에 담아가면 족할 일이다.

양구는 우리 국토의 정중앙, 즉 배꼽이란 수식어로 대표되기도 하며 깨끗한 자연 경관이 인상적인 곳이다. 그래서인지, 밤이 내린 양구는 말 그대로 ‘칠흑’같다. 옻칠처럼 은은한 광택이 서린 어둠. 밤 8시를 넘기자 밤하늘에 하나, 둘, 별이 걸리기 시작했다.
