Seoul Fashion Week Kicks off at Olympic Park

Seoul Fashion Week Spring 2012 kicked off with great fanfare on April 2. Held at Peace Square of Jamshil Olympic Park, the 12-year-old fashion event began with the show of Chang, Kwang Hyo, one of Korea’s leading menswear designers, wowing international press and buyers as well as fashion professionals. The first day’s shows brilliantly helped solidify the ever-increasing brand power of Korean menswear designers.

Instead of the previous indoor space of SETEC, official venue of Seoul Fashion Week for the past 11 years, SFW, this year, will hold most of the fashion events at an outdoor plaza of Olympic Park in an effort to maximize accessibility for the public. Despite the unexpected rain, the first day of Seoul Fashion Week successfully drew crowds and fashion professionals alike.

A total of four huge tents were set up at the square for such fashion shows as Seoul Collection, Fashion Take-off and Generation Next, and many other events and business meetings including Seoul Fashion Fair and Donation Runway.

Also, six Singapore brands have now landed in Seoul to launch their Fall/Winter 2012 collections. This showcase of selected brands from Singapore is organized by the Textile and Fashion Federation with the collaboration of Seoul Fashion Week. A fresh crop of Singapore brands has emerged, shining the limelight once more on Singapore brands – AWOL, Carrie K, L’ILE AUX ASHBY, Ling Wu, Max Tan and Veritas by Carrie K- many of which are stocked in New York, Paris, London, Milan, Tokyo, Dubai, Hong Kong, Beijing, Taipei, Mumbai and more. This showcase will be held at Seoul Fashion Fair @ Seoul Fashion Week from April 2nd to April 5th.
