All about Korea, “Korean music in ancient palace” 고궁에서 국악을 들어본 적 있나요?

‘The 6th Korean music in ancient palace’ was held which introducing Korea traditional music to the Seoul citizens and foreign tourists. This concert begun as a regular concert since 2009, total attendance at this concert has topped a quarter-million from now on. ‘The 6th Korean music in ancient palace’ will last May through October at Korea palaces, for example, Gyeongbokgung, Changdeokgung, Deoksugung, Jongmyo shrine in Seoul.

대한민국 전통예술 활성화에 앞장서 온 ‘고궁에서 우리음악 듣기’ 공연이 올해로 6회를 맞이했다. 전통공연예술 진흥재단의 주최로 2009년부터 상설공연으로 시작된 ‘고궁에서 우리음악 듣기’는 현재까지 누적관객 수 25만 명을 기록하며 서울을 찾는 외국인들과 국내 대중들에게 전통문화의 아름다움을 알려왔다. 올해는 5월부터 10월까지 경복궁, 창덕궁, 덕수궁, 종묘에서 국내 최고의 국악 명인들의 연주가 울려 퍼질 예정이다.

Daegeum
The daegeum is a large bamboo transverse flute used in traditional Korean music. It has a buzzing membrane that gives it a special timbre. It is used in court, aristocratic, and folk music, as well as in contemporary classical music, popular music, and film scores.
대금은 한국음악에서 널리 사용되는 관악기이다. 음색이 매우 맑으며 저음은 깊고 신비로운 소리가 나고 고음은 청이 울리는 화창한 소리가 난다. 굵고 긴 대나무에 구멍을 뚫어 가로 부는 악기로 동서양을 통틀어 이런 형태로 연주되는 유일한 악기이다.

 

Chunaengmoo
Chunaengmoo is a kind of dance for homage Sunwon queen’s 40th birthday which it was made by son of Sunjo king, crown prince Hyomyung. The best feature of Chunaengmoo is an immovable dance.
춘앵무는 조선 순조 때 창작된 궁중정재의 하나로 순조의 아들 효명세자가 순원왕후의 탄신 40주년을 기념해 지은 춤이다. 버드나무 가지에서 맑게 지저귀는 꾀꼬리의 모습을 보고 만들었다고 전해지며 지극히 절제된 춤을 추기 때문에 그 움직임이 거의 느껴지지 않는 것이 특징이다.

 

Pansori
Pansori is a Korean genre of musical storytelling performed by a vocalist and a drummer. The music is usually performed by one sorikkun and one gosu. The term pansori is derived from pan (a place where many people gather), and sori(sound).
판소리는 짧게는 세 시간, 길게는 여섯 시간 정도 걸리는 긴 이야기를 몸짓을 섞어가며 고수의 북 반주에 맞춰 노래하는 한국전통음악의 하나이다. 1964년 대한민국 중요무형문화재 제5호로 지정되었으며, 2003년 11월에는 유네스코 인류구전 및 무형유산걸작으로 선정되었다.

 

Gayageum
The gayageum or kayagum is a traditional Korean zither-like string instrument, with 12 strings, though some more recent variants have 21 or other numbers of strings. It is probably the best known traditional Korean musical instrument.
한국의 전통 현악기로 오동나무 통에 명주실로 된 열두 줄을 매어 손가락으로 뜯는 악기이다. 가야금은 동아시아 전역에 널리 퍼져 있는 롱 지터류의 전통악기 중 하나로 부드럽고 아름다운 음색으로 가장 널이 알려진 국악기다.
