Conveying the nature in music, Country Gongbang 더 젊고 경쾌해진 컨트리음악을 담다, 컨트리공방

A Korean band who sings for our ordinary life, Country Gongbang. As the unique Korean country band, they are four-member group consists of a banjoist Jang Hyun Ho, a vocalist Kim Ye Bin. A drummer Shin Jin Ho, a contrabassist, Song Ghi Ha. But they are total different from some Korean band who plays country music. Because, Country Gongbang shows Bluegrass. It is one of the country music that started in the1940s or 1950s in America. So their musics are basically based on bluegrass. Country music is very comfortable to listen to and lyrical in wholesome way.

Since their first digital single ‘Fish Cake’, the first digital EP album ‘Country Gongbang 1st EP’, Country Gongbang shows something different country music through albums and the stage where they play their music with fans. And finally, they got to win ‘2015 the Independent Music Project’, despite tough competition of 400 to 1. Now, we can clearly say that Country Gongbang is already one of the real Korean band who plays country musics with the only sensitivity of them. CultureM Magazine meets the Korean band who conveys the nature in music, Country Gongbang.

더하지도 덜하지도 않은 우리네 일상을 편안하게 읊조리는 밴드, 컨트리공방. 반조의 장현호, 보컬의 김예빈, 드럼과 타악기의 신진호, 콘트라베이스의 송기하로 구성된 컨트리공방은 시류에 편승하기 보다는 그들만의 스타일이 오롯이 담긴 음악을 선보여왔다. 사실, 컨트리공방의 컨트리 음악은 미국 컨트리 음악의 여러 장르 중에서도 가장 컨트리의 뿌리에 가까운 ‘Bluegrass’라는 장르를 바탕으로  따뜻하고 일상적인 가사와 팝적인 멜로디를 더해 오직 컨트리공방에게서만 들을 수 있는 음악을 만들어왔기 때문이다.

특히 컨트리공방은 일상적인 가사와 팝적인 멜로디를 더 해 컨트리공방만이 할 수 있는 컨트리 음악으로 첫 디지털 싱글 ‘붕어빵’, 첫 EP 앨범 Country Gongbang 1st EP’ 등으로 홍대 인디씬을 바탕으로 지속적인 활동을 펼쳐왔다. 더욱이 소속사 없는 뮤지션을 지원하며 숨어있는 실력파 뮤지션의 등용문으로 불리는 2015 ‘무소속프로젝트’에서 400:1의 경쟁률을 뚫고 공동 우승을 했으니 과연 이들의 내공이 얼마큼인지 무척이나 궁금해진다. 컬쳐엠매거진이 한 상 가득 오롯이 푸근함을 담아낸 밴드, 컨트리공방을 만났다.
