The heart of Hungary, Budapest
Budapest is the capital and the largest city of Hungary, and one of the largest cities in the European Union. It is the country’s principal political, cultural, commercial, industrial, and transportation centre, sometimes described as the primate city of Hungary. In 2011, according to the census, Budapest had 1.74 million inhabitants, down from its 1989 peak of 2.1 million due to suburbanisation. The Budapest Metropolitan Area is home to 3.3 million people. The city covers an area of 525 square kilometres within the city limits. Budapest became a single city occupying both banks of the river Danube with its unification on 17 November 1873 of Buda and Óbuda, on the west bank, with Pest, on the east bank.

헝가리의 심장, 부다페스트
헝가리의 수도이자 정치·산업·상업·교통·문화의 중심지, 부다페스트. 현재 중유럽 최대의 도시로 1873년에 도나우강서쪽의 부다(Buda)와 오부다(Óbuda), 동쪽의 페슈트(Pest)가 합쳐져 지금의 부다페스트가 되었다. 따라서, 부다와 페스트의 두 지역으로 대별되는데 역사적 전통이 남아 있는 부다에는 역사적인 사적들과 장려한 의사당 등이 밀집되어 있다. 또한 부타페스트는 1956년헝가리혁명으로도 유명하며 유네스코 세계유산에도 등록되어 있을 만큼 세계사적으로 중요한 가치를 지니고 있는 도시다.

 

Buda Castle in Budapest
Buda Castle is the historical castle and palace complex of the Hungarian kings in Budapest, and was first completed in 1265. In the past, it has been called Royal Palace and Royal Castle. It was built on the southern tip of Castle Hill, bounded on the north by what is known as the Castle District, which is famous for its Medieval, Baroque, and 19th-century houses, churches, and public buildings. It is linked to Clark Ádám Square and the Széchenyi Chain Bridge by the Castle Hill Funicular. The castle is a part of the Budapest World Heritage Site, which was declared a Heritage Site in 1987.

헝가리의 역사적 아픔을 담다, 부다 성
부다 성은 헝가리 부다페스트에 있는 헝가리 국왕들이 살았던 역사적인 성채이다. 부다 언덕 남쪽 꼭대기에 위치해있으며 아담 클라크 광장과 푸니쿨라 옆 세체니 다리와 이어져 있으며 1987년 공표된 부다페스트 세계문화유산의 일부이다. 현재 왕궁은 국립미술관과 박물관으로 이용되고 있으며 일부는 세체니 도서관으로 꾸며 중세의 사본 등을 전시하고 있다. 오랫동안 역사적인 소용돌이 안에서 증, 개축 및 소실을 거듭하다가 두 차례에 걸친 세계대전으로 큰 타격을 입기도 했다. 1956년 헝가리 혁명이 발생할 때에 소련군에 의해 파괴되기도 하였으며 현재의 건물은 1980년대에 재건된 것이다.

 

Fisherman’s Bastion
The Halászbástya or Fisherman’s Bastion is a terrace in neo-Gothic and neo-Romanesque style situated on the Buda bank of the Danube, on the Castle hill in Budapest, around Matthias Church. It was designed and built between 1895 and 1902 on the plans of Frigyes Schulek. Between 1947~48, the son of Frigyes Schulek, János Schulek, conducted the other restoration project after its near destruction during World War II. From the towers and the terrace a panoramic view exists of Danube, Margaret Island, Pest to the east and the Gellért Hill.
Its seven towers represent the seven Magyar tribes that settled in the Carpathian Basin in 896. The Bastion takes its name from the guild of fishermen that was responsible for defending this stretch of the city walls in the Middle Ages. It is a viewing terrace, with many stairs and walking paths.

어부의 요새
부다 왕궁 언덕의 동쪽에 네오 로마네스크와 네오 고딕 양식이 혼재된 건물로, 1895년에서 1902동안 지어졌다. 19세기 헝가리 시민군이 왕궁을 지키고 있을 때 근처 도나우강의 어부들이 도강하는 적의 기습을 막기 위해 방어한 데서 어부의 요새라는 이름이 지어졌다.
중세에는 어부들이 근처 어시장으로 통하는 지름길로 사용했으며 어부의 요새의 가장 큰 특징인일곱개의 탑은 당시의 7부족을 상징한다. 모든 건물이 긴 복도식으로 연결되어 있으며, 화려한 성벽과 마차시 교회까지 뻗어있는 계단은 어부의 요새를 대표할 만큼 아름다운 조형미를 뽐낸다.
