It is 2013, the year of the snake. Many people have been awaiting the end of 2012, but for the many K-Pop lovers around the world, there is yet one more awards ceremony to look forward to. Many K-pop fans will be glued to their TVs and cellphones to see which of their favorite K-pop stars will walk away with trophies from the Golden Disk Awards.
One of the most prominent awards in Korea is the Golden Disk Award. This year, the awards ceremony will be held in Kuala lumpur, Malaysia.

Its 27th awards ceremony is sponsored this year by Samsung Galaxy. The website for this years results is: http://kpopwave.joinsmsn.com/awards/27goldendisk/en/

The GDA winners are selected by album sales and digital downloads that clearly shows the results of which musician’s work was most appreciated this year by the fans from all over the world.

The GDA’s categories are disk album award, song award, popularity award, new rising star award, best hip hop award and single album award.
Their online voting finished as of the 1st of January 2013 and as many readers could guess Psy is the strongest nominee throughout most of the categories except new rising star; he could not be nominated since he has been one of the most professional and successful musicians in Korea since his debut in 2001. Although Psy, who has never been invited by the GDA until this year, is be expect to walk away with more than one trophy for his song “Gang Nam Style”.

T-ara with their album “Funky Town” and Kara with “First Step” are the strongest two girl groups who are competing against Psy and Big bang’s “Alive” for this year’s Disk album of the year. Although Big bang has been the leading Idol group in Korea for years, they might not be able to stand against this year’s mega hit musician Psy.
For the new rising star award, Busker Busker is standing out as an indie band. The band officially debuted in June of last year with their first album “Busker Busker”. This debut comes after being on Superstar K3 in 2011. They are also nominated for 3 other categories this year, proving their success as artists.

Competing against Busker Busker on Superstar K3 was Ulala Session. They will be facing off once more as they compete, only this time, they will be competing for the new rising star award. Ulala Session walked away as winner of Superstar K3 in 2011 but it will be interesting to see which of them has gotten more votes this time.

Ailee is also nominated for the NRSA. She debuted in October of last year with her mini album “Invitation”. She stands out from many of the girl group nominees, since she is a solo singer, which is very hard to find these days in the K pop industry. Ailee has been praised by many of her senior musicians for her powerful voice and wide musical range. She will be someone to watch in 2013, along with Juniel from CNblue, Lee Hi, MBLAQ, BEAST, INFINITE and BTOB.

Millions of young K pop fans out there have been clicking for this year’s popularity award again. Each year more and more girl groups are nominated for this award. Of the 49 nominees, 14 of them are female performers, showing the strong growth of female artists in the K pop industry.

The GDA will be held on the 15th and 16th of January at Sepang International Circuit in Kuala Lumpur. If you are a true fan of K pop, this is the awards show you shouldn’t miss.

  • When I initially commented I clicked the -Notify me when new comments are added- checkbox and now each time a remark is added I get four emails with the identical comment. Is there any method you’ll be able to take away me from that service? Thanks!

  • Interesting blog post. A few things i would like to contribute is that computer system memory must be purchased if the computer still can’t cope with anything you do by using it. One can put in two good old ram boards of 1GB each, by way of example, but not certainly one of 1GB and one with 2GB. One should check the company’s documentation for own PC to make sure what type of storage it can take.

  • I love to Yours
